An @Instacart Shopper in Tacoma, WA tripped on a customers uneven front steps. After her accident was in a coma, and on life support. She is now awake weeks later but cannot move much or speak. She has undergone two brain surgeries. Everyday we risk our lives for <minimum wage.

Gig work is incredibly dangerous.

“My estimates also indicate that Uber and Lyft drivers face fatal risks that are 1.1 and 2.6 times the fatality rate for police officers and firefighters. The corresponding estimates for GrubHub drivers are 2.0 and 4.4.”https://t.co/CPuBv0zvtu
Everyday gig workers face increased risks of accidents and death due to the number of miles we spend behind the wheel. We are assaulted, robbed, injured, and killed while transporting passengers & delivering orders. Deliveries pose an especially high risk of slips and falls.

Many of us work without health insurance, and due to misclassification are ineligible for state workers compensation & disability insurance programs. Our work is dangerous and under-compensated. Meanwhile executives that line their pockets off of our backs receive full-benefits.

AND when we are injured…there’s no pay. We can’t take time to heal. We’re not eligible for any sort of PTO or paid time off (in the state Dawn is in PTO is MANDATORY as of 2017 buy doesn’t apply to contractors).

I’m sorry, correction int 1433 went into effect in 2018. But we literally voted on this here and instacart gets away with not adhering to it by misclassifying us. And that’s on top of the fact that this was a WORK injury. pic.twitter.com/n5nuQ6H3xQ
